Red Bulls Autism Awareness Game


The New York Red Bulls will host Autism Awareness at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, April 21, for our match against Chicago Fire at 3:30 p.m.

A percentage of each ticket purchased through this link will be donated to Autism Speaks. The first 1,500 who purchase through this link  will receive an Autism Awareness scarf. (Donated amounts are not tax deductible by ticket purchasers.)
There will also be a Quiet Room available for families impacted by Autism looking to take a break from the game located in 1935 near section 112 (look for signs to direct you there).

Sensory Sacks will be available in the Quiet Room and in the Sensory Room. Each sensory sack will include a stress ball, a wristband with the child’s seat information and headphones/hearing safe protectors for children.

Fresh off a successful 2016 Major League Soccer campaign that included a conference-best regular season record and unlucky early playoff exit, the Harrison-based New York Red Bulls opened their new season earlier this month with a tough road test against Atlanta United FC, one of the league’s two new expansion teams for 2017.

After conceding an early goal, the Red Bulls fought back to score two of their own and spoil the inaugural game festivities as they escaped Atlanta with a win.

The three points secured in the victory will undoubtedly prove vital over the stretch of the long, eight-month regular season, but the win wasn’t the only thing that had Red Bulls General Manager Marc de Grandpre beaming when he returned to New Jersey last week.

For de Grandpre, opening night in Atlanta not only offered a valuable opportunity to showcase his team to a nationally televised audience, it signaled a big step for the MLS, now in its 22nd season as the top flight of soccer in the country, as yet another new American market opened its doors to the world’s game.

New York Red Bulls kick off annual 11 Days of Service Campaign

10628562_10152344330300264_2554284474860553430_nThe New York Red Bulls kick off its annual 11 Days of Service Campaign tomorrow with a trip to the Ronald McDonald House in New York City. The Red Bulls created the 11 days of Service initiative to run in conjunction with September 11 – the national day of service and remembrance.  Rather than participate in just one day of service, the New York Red Bulls will participate in 11 different community activations as a tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Red Bulls players, staff and fans will be giving back to the community via the different events as listed below.

September 1st – Ronald McDonald House: Members of the Red Bulls front office and team will meet the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in New York City and serve dinner.  For more information on how to volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House, please visit

The new space will officially open on September 24th and members of the Red Bulls front office and team will meet Newark community members and youth to celebrate. Harrison’s Riverbend Getting Euro Hotel

2015-05-19_14-17-52HARRISON, NJ—The Riverbend District, a 35-acre redevelopment project by Advance Realty, will get a European styled, 150-room AC Hotel by Marriott, Advance says.

Designed in AC Hotel’s sophisticated European style, the build-to-suit, 85,000-square-foot hotel will also include a bar and lounge area and a breakfast area — both of which will include outdoor seating. Other amenities will include a meeting room, a fitness center and a contemporary lobby.

The hotel will also have more than 4,300 square feet of retail and restaurant space, supplementing the residential, retail and office space that Advance is already developing in the Riverbend District.

“The addition of AC Hotels by Marriott to the Riverbend District will be a key component in the continued development and enhancement of a dynamic destination in Harrison,” says Peter Cocoziello, president of Advance Realty. “The AC Hotel will benefit area corporations by accommodating business travel and will add to the variety of dining and entertainment options for Riverbend residents and visitors.”

Earlier this year, Advance Realty and joint-venture partner DeBartolo Development unveiled plans for 1,000 luxury apartments and 20,000 square feet of premium retail space on three blocks within the district. The area already hosts professional soccer’s New York Red Bulls in the 25,000-seat Red Bulls Arena, and it will soon house a newly renovated PATH station offering direct rail access to New York City.

In addition, Panasonic Corporation of North America has moved into a new technology center that Advance developed within Riverbend. This facility houses the company’s engineering offices, a lab and various testing areas.


Ready to move: How Harrison is transforming from an industrial powerhouse

Picture2Once considered a “beehive of industry,” a New Jersey town is gradually reinventing itself.

Over the last few years, luxury apartments have sprung up alongside empty warehouses and factories in Harrison, a Hudson County town once known for its industrial prowess. The vision for a revitalized Harrison has been a long time in the making, hobbled by a number of factors, like recession and Hurricane Sandy. But the town has seemingly hit its development stride, and some experts say it is primed to become a hot spot for people looking for an easy commute at a lower price.

The town is in the midst of a renaissance, Harrison Mayor James Fife said, as old industrial sites are being replaced by commercial and residential buildings. The 25,000-seat Red Bull Arena opened in 2010, and the Element Harrison-Newark hotel opened in August 2014. Nearby, several new projects, such as the mixed-use Vermella Harrison, are well underway.

“Harrison historically was a gritty, industrial town,”  said Michael Sommer, managing director of development at Advance Realty. The company and DeBartolo Development are developing six buildings on three blocks within the town’s Riverbend District, adjacent from the Harrison PATH station. “I think in the next few years, Harrison is going to look like a very different place in a very positive way.”

He said the town is particularly appealing to young renters, who are looking for an easy commute to New York City or Newark but lower rents than, say, Hoboken or Jersey City.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAResident Adam Silver said he moved to Water’s Edge in Harrison in January. He’d lived in Jersey City for seven years but found that the rent was becoming too expensive. Harrison proved a fitting alternative. Now he pays roughly $1,000 less a month for the same amount of space, he said, and has a relatively easy commute into midtown Manhattan.

He thinks interest in the town is bound to grow.

“You’re going to see nice stores and more opportunity happening in Harrison over the next few years,” he told NJ Advance Media in a recent interview. “People are going to see value there and start moving.”


Harrison Station Platform Expansion Opens

PATH-harrison-station-replacement-aboutA new section of the Harrison PATH station’s westbound platform for trains headed toward Newark has opened. Commuters boarding the train to Newark will make a right onto the platform, while the east end will be closed to make way for construction of the new station entrance.

A similar change was made to the eastbound platform last week.

PATH is replacing the nearly 80-year-old depot with a state-of-the-art, gleaming glass-and-steel station with modernized amenities. This $256 million project will feature new glass-enclosed, weather-protected station entrances, modern elevators, widened stairs and escalator access to both platforms. Additionally, the platforms will be extended to accommodate longer, 10-car trains on the Newark–WTC line.

The new station is being constructed alongside a broader redevelopment plan put forth by the officials in Harrison, including a mixed-use commercial and residential development, the Red Bull Arena soccer stadium and enhanced public spaces.

This project will create 1,080 jobs, $72 million in wages and $344 million in economic activity.

Married in January, the Monmouth County couple moved a month later to Water’s Edge, a new 141-unit apartment complex in Harrison. The combination of new construction and proximity to the Harrison PATH station sealed the deal for the couple, who work in Manhattan.

“We both work in the city, so Water’s Edge made sense for us,” said Hamid. “The shorter commute gives us more time together and we both love the layout of the apartment. It’s a good size for two people and it feels very comfortable, so overall, it is a good living situation for us.”

Apparently, others agree. Water’s Edge, which was constructed by Livingston-based BNE Real Estate Group and opened in September, is already 85 percent occupied, as of late March. Monthly rents for the studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments start at $1,600.

“Harrison is undergoing a tremendous renaissance and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” said Jonathan Schwartz, senior vice president of BNE Real Estate Group. “Water’s Edge reflects our commitment to creating innovative, well-thought out residences in strategic locations near mass transportation that meet the needs of today’s sophisticated renter.”

 Another project nearing completion, Harrison Station, is located adjacent to the PATH station. The third phase of the mixed use development will include 329 residences and 8,700 square feet of retail. Two earlier phases included an Element Hotel, which opened in August, along with 275 rental units and 12,184 square feet of retail space that opened in 2011. Construction should be completed by October, according to George Cahn, president of Cahn Communications and a spokesman for Ironstate Holdings and The Pegasus Group, the two firms building the project.

Also in Harrison, construction of Vermella Harrison is nearly complete, with the first 100 apartments slated for occupancy by the end of the summer, according to Lisa Kaplan, director of marketing for Carlstadt-based Russo Development. Located adjacent to Red Bull Arena and the Harrison PATH station, the complex will feature 402 rental units, as well as 15,000 square feet of retail space.
