Newark Public Library to Celebrate Grand Opening of Reimagined NJ Hispanic Research and Information Center

The Newark Public Library will open the doors to its newly reimagined NJ Hispanic Research and Information Center (NJHRIC) on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5 Washington Street, Newark, on the 3rd floor.

The celebration will feature a live DJ, book giveaway, tours of the new space, story time and craft activities for children, and food and desserts. Griselle Ponce, President of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc., will serve as Mistress of Ceremony, with activist, journalist, and poet Felipe Luciano delivering the keynote address. Performances will be provided by Luis Portalatin and Friends, Peruinca Folk, Segunda Quimbamba, and Arts High Latin Band.

Founded in 2002, the NJHRIC has grown into a significant research resource, housing more than 75 archival collections and one of the largest public Spanish-language book collections in New Jersey. The redesigned space brings together archives, conference and research rooms, a children’s area, and community programming space under one roof.

Space is limited and registration is required. Free parking is available at 20-54 Bridge Street Garage, Newark. To RSVP, visit tinyurl.com/njhricopening.
