Known as a creator of evocative dances that reflect her concerns about the human condition, Dorfman creates “worlds” in which to enter. Her interdisciplinary and intercultural approach explores the rich tapestry of human experience, tradition and stories. Her multi-ethnic and stunning dancers collaborate to unleash the powerful storytelling and imagery of their visionary creator. Touring nationally and internationally, her company presents immersive performance and teaching residencies that take the company into diverse communities to share art and process that can build connection and human understanding. DEPTH- Dance that Empowers People To be more Human is at the heart of the artistic and education programming of Carolyn Dorfman Dance (CDD).
Honored with many artistic civic and humanitarian awards, Dorfman is a master teacher, mentor, and a guest artist at major universities, pre-professional and professional training programs across the U.S. and abroad. In November 2017, she was the featured cover story in the Dance Teacher Magazine entitled “Making Dance a Dialogue”. Dorfman is an Honorary Co-Chair of NJPAC’s Celebrate Dance Advisory Committee; leads the Dance Division for NJPAC’s Arts Education Program and CDD performs annually at NJPAC’s Victoria Theater.
