Portrait of a Civil War Marriage

On Thursday, May 30th at 6:00pm The New Jersey Historical Society will present the first of a series of lectures on New Jersey history. The initial presentation is entitled “Portrait of a Civil War Marriage,” and the speaker is John Zinn, chair of the New Jersey Civil War 150th Anniversary Committee. The lecture draws upon the letters of William H. Lloyd of the 33rd New Jersey to his wife Mary and will describe the challenges facing a young married couple during one of the most tumultuous periods of American history.

John Zinn is the author of The Mutinous Regiment: The Thirty-third New Jersey in the Civil War and is also the chairman of the board of The New Jersey Historical Society.

The lecture will take place in the Dillon auditorium at 52 Park Place in Newark. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public.

The New Jersey Historical Society offers public exhibitions, education programs and a renowned research library. Public exhibitions are open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am to 5pm with the Research Library open 12pm to 5pm by appointment.
