Location, Location Exhibit at The Dora Stern Gallery at Arts Unbound

Arts Unbound is dedicated to the artistic achievement of people living with disabilities and the continuing artistic enrichment of seniors.

2016-02-03_13-12-16Arts Unbound, the gallery and studio dedicated to artists with disabilities and seniors, will be exhibiting artwork centered around “a sense of place” in their next exhibit, Location, Location. The exhibit will begin with an opening reception on Thursday, February 18 from 5-8pm, and will feature artwork in a wide range of mediums, including photography, acrylic, oils, soft sculpture, and more.

All of the works in the show are places, real or imagined, that hold personal significance for the artist. They are placeholders for memories of past events or future plans. Artists include Jon Gabry of Kearny, John Inocencio of Dover, Andrea Weisbard of South Orange, Tom Wade of Springfield, Brad Friedman of Leawood, Kansas, as well as Chad DeRoche and Gifford Moy from the Brooklyn-based art collective ArteMoose (under the programming of AHRC), and Faith Stolz from Matheny Arts Access in Peapack, NJ.

Arts Unbound is dedicated to the artistic achievement of people living with disabilities and seniors. They provide visual arts education and professional development to help emerging artists compete on the retail market. By promoting the work of artists with disabilities and seniors, Arts Unbound centers their art-making rather than any impairments and by doing so challenges the stigma associated with disability and aging.

The gallery is located in the Valley Arts District at 544 Freeman Street, in Orange. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm, Saturdays noon-5pm, and by appointment. www.artsunbound.org (Arts Unbound – 973-675-2787). The Showcase store is located at 100 Baker Street, in Maplewood, NJ. Store hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 11am-6pm, and Saturday, 10am-6pm.        – Margaret Mikkelsen
