Girl Scout ‘Leadership Center’ Opens In Newark, Will Be Hub In Region

As reported by Patch.com, a ribbon cutting was recently held for a new Girl Scout Leadership Center that will serve thousands of youth in the Newark area.

The new Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) Leadership Center is located at 375 McCarter Highway in Newark. The 5,500 square feet facility will serve as a hub for the region’s 13,000 current Girl Scouts and 9,000 adult volunteers. It will also host programs and events.

Newark’s Girl Scout membership has surged by more than 750 percent since 2018, and now includes more than 1,100 registered members, according to a news release.

According to real estate firm Paramount Assets, here are some details about the new Girl Scout leadership center:

“The Girl Scouts’ ground-level facility features substantial program, administrative, storage, and street-access retail space, along with significant facilities, internal restrooms, an expansive kitchen, ample parking, and 24×7 security. Central to the Leadership Center’s creation was a team of seven Girl Scouts youth members who served as Community Design Leaders, helping to ensure the space truly reflects the needs and dreams of those it serves.”
